Dear North Bethesda Middle School Students,
We urge you to read as often as possible over the summer break. You must read at least two chapter books, but we suggest you read even more. The length of the books is up to you and you may choose the topics/genres that you would like to read. However, at least one of the books should be fiction or biography with a narrative format.
In other words, at least one of your choices must have individuals (characters) that are engaged in action (plot). In this way, you may select a biography or an autobiography since these genres have an individual and are written in a narrative format—one that tells a story.
You are not required to read any specific title. If you want to explore a wide range of book suggestions, please visit the North Bethesda Middle School website and select the Media Center tab at the top of the page for more information about summer reading.
We are excited to announce a summer reading opportunity that combines optional reading with Student Service Learning extensions. Please note that while this opportunity is only available using a selection from teacher approved texts, you may also use the SSL Summer reading towards one of your two required books.
Let’s take a look at the specifics of this optional enrichment opportunity, linked in the document titled "2024 Optional SSL Summer Reading Advocacy Extension" (see below).
